Marjorie Sorge

Vice President, Corporate Strategy & Development

Marjorie Sorge has more than 35 years of experience in developing strategy as a corporate executive and journalist.

She served as vice president of corporate communications at Strategic Staffing Solutions and vice president of corporate communications at Metaldyne Corporation. She was also director of corporation communications for Visteon Corporation and was executive on loan from that company to Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm and the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth. She was a member of Michigan’s Council on Labor and Economic Growth (CLEG) and served as its chair.

Marge was also the founder and executive director of the Detroit Regional News Hub, a one-of-a-kind, non-profit organization with a single goal ... to connect the media and others to stories, people and organizations that were transforming metro Detroit.

Before moving into the corporate world, Marge spent 23 years as an automotive journalist. She was editor-in-chief of Automotive Industries magazine, executive editor of Ward’s Auto World, labor editor at Automotive News and a staff writer at The Detroit News.

During her career in journalism, she covered all areas of the auto industry including boards of directors, finances, labor negotiations, new products, manufacturing, new business trends and the environment. She also provided auto reports to WJR radio and covered the auto industry as a stringer for Reuter’s news service.

She was inducted into the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame and has also received the Jesse H. Neal Editorial Achievement Award, several Detroit Press Club Foundation awards as well as awards from Gannett, Crain Communications and the Chilton Company.

Marge was named one of the Women to Watch by Crain’s Detroit Business and has also been honored with the Women in Communications Vanguard Award.

 

In addition, she has received the Leaders, Legends and Luminaries award from the Lakeshore Economic Coalition; the Greater Good Award from the National Association of Women Business Owners Greater Detroit; the Arts and Communication Woman of Achievement by the YWCA of Western Wayne County, and the Individual Good Scout Award by the Clinton Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America.

 

While at Metaldyne, Marge led the team that received an honorable mention from Platinum PR Awards for the global communications plan implemented when Japan-based Ashai Tec purchased Metaldyne. The small team with a limited budget competed against large agencies and companies such as Cisco Systems, KFC, Weber Shandwick, Tektronix and The NewsMarket, which launched the George Clooney/Save Darfur campaign.

 

Marge is a member of the Kettering University Board of Trustees and is on the ARISE Detroit! Board of Directors. She is a past board member of the Automotive Press

Association, where she served as president, and was on the boards of Forgotten Harvest and the Michigan Israel Business Bridge. She was also a member of the Advisory Board for the MBA and Master of Management program at Walsh College.

 

She has a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from Michigan State University.
